He was a wise guy.

“Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversations be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians 4:5-6

Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders”
I grew up in a Christian home but I was not wise. I was lucky.
I grew up going to a Christian school but I was not wise. I was fortunate.
I grew up going to church but I was not wise. I was blessed with good parents.
I grew up making good choices but I was not wise. I was afraid to get in trouble.
I grew up with a calling to ministry but I was not wise. I was aware.
I grew up with a strong sense of righteousness but I was not wise. I was judgmental.
I grew up with a degree in Religion but I was not wise. I was educated.
I grew up with the vocation of teaching kids the Old Testament and New Testament but I was not wise. I was trying my best.
I grew up loving Christ but I was not wise. I was thankful He never let go.

A good family, grounded schools, excellent youth pastors, and education do not make you wise.
Because wise is NOT a lot of things. It is especially not judgment, questioning, eye rolling, being a know it all, having a closed mind, hypocrisy, thinking IT involves formality, or a specific dress code.
Wise for me is reminding myself that He loved the thief, the prostitute, the sick and the outcast. He truly loved the outsider without blinking an eye. I am thankful for His example. His life teaches us the definition of wise.
What IS wise for you?
