{Day 7} Remember.

I watch my kids play with puzzles, crayons, bubbles, dress-up clothes and I remember. I loved to play! Did you love to play?
I loved entering lands of imagination. I loved baby dolls, art projects, dress-up, bubbles, baking, puzzles, soccer, and hide and seek. What did you love to play?
I am guilty of watching children’s PBS programs through college but I know for most of us somewhere along the line of life the definition of play changes for adults. But I am truly inclined to believe that what we played as kids gives us a glimpse into who God created us to be.
I look at the story (Luke 2) of Jesus in the temple at age twelve. At twelve He was soaking in the teachings of the Torah not playing kick ball in the streets. At twelve he was already finding joy in His purpose.
As a kid I loved to write stories…silly and imaginative stories. Now I write preschool curriculum.
As a kid I loved to design rooms inside shoe boxes. Now I help design children’s spaces and sets for weekend worship services.
As a kid I was always a camera ham. Now I get to record fun characters for video curriculum.
Do you find the loves you had as a kid play a role in your world today? If not, why?
Stepping Stone #3
Remember Your Childhood Loves.
Spend some time reflecting on what you loved to do as a kid, teenager, and young adult. Think about if those things are reflected in your everyday life now. If not is there one action step you can take to incorporate them into your world as it is now? Maybe you loved cotton candy as a kid. Commit to buying it once a month. I am kind of kidding but you get my point.

Break free Activity:
Go through any childhood photos you have of yourself and be reminded of what you found joy in. If you don’t have access to photos then call a family member and reflect on a game of flash-light tag, checkers, or hop scotch.
