The Shoe Talk

Oh! Look at you.
Wait!
I didn’t come for you.
But look how cool you are.
You are hip, trendy, and a bit risky.
You are sooooooooooooooooo NOT me.
But I want you!
Let me JUST try you on.
What will it hurt?
Oh no! I like you even more.
Hmmmm…how bad can you be?
You are in the clearance section.
Let me take a look…YIKES! You definitely are not clearance. But wait look at your brand name. Shoot, that just makes me want you more.
What should I do? My personal envelope is on empty. Getting you would be breaking the rules.
I am putting you away. But I already miss you.

I tell my hubby about you. He says I can splurge! He says I can get you!
We come back to the store and I am so excited to see you.
But there is a hitch. My hubby isn’t crazy about you…I am saddened.
He says to try you on so I do.
He likes you better. But a seed of doubt has been planted.
Why do I want you when I don’t need you?
If I don’t buy you I could buy
or
18 school starter packs from Food for the Hungry
or
21 ornaments from Mercy House
I pace the shoe aisle with you.
What to do? What to do?
Why, why can’t I just grab you and go. Why can’t I just treat myself?
I can’t, I just can’t.
My want of you is not a need for you. I walk away from you.
We say our goodbyes and parting is a sweet sorrow.
