Chapter three of Revolutionary Parenting by George Barna is what I have renamed the guilt chapter. I feel guilty when I read it because it reminds me how much work I have to do. But I am thankful for the nudges it provides me to be a better wife, mom, and most importantly child of God.
Here is how Barna and his research defines the qualities of a revolutionary parent.
Revolutionary Parents…
- Fight against cultural norms
- Do what is right based on biblical principles
- Are likely to be single-income households
- Schedule time to spend with their children each day
- Intentionally identify their children as their main focus in life during the parenting years
- Make raising children their priority because of their Christian faith
- Have family conversations that bring biblical views into their lives
- Regularly engage in faith activities
- Are directly involved in the spiritual lives of their kids
- Have a deep love for their children
- See parenting as their mission in life
- Build relationships with their kids
- Have conversations about moral and spiritual matters frequently and easily
- Consistently honor God by pursuing their personal faith maturity
