Lessons Learned from Steven Tyler

Before I got married I had a little TV with an antenna that only got one channel with decent quality. So I really only knew about shows on NBC. When I started dating my now husband I was introduced to HD TV and reality TV. Hallelujah!

One show I met was American Idol. The last couple of years have been some of my favorite. (Simon and Paula being gone made the show better in my opinion).  I love watching these every day kids pursue their dreams.

In one of the last shows Steven Tyler, who is just hilarious, said “If you don’t have a dream then you have no way to make one come true.” I realize Mr. Tyler isn’t a theologian but his words just won’t leave me.

I was a little girl that loved to wish upon a star, loved to dream of being a dress designer in NYC, loved to dream of being a mommy, loved to dream of walking down the red carpet for an awards show, loved to dream of dreams…I simply loved to dream and still do. One of the greatest lessons I have learned is how to separate Carey dreams from God dreams. It is a bit tricky and requires two clean ears and an open heart.

I am in a season where it is time for me to set down what I wish for and pursue what God dreams for me.

How about you? Do you love to dream? Have you let go of a dream? Do you need to take a moment and wish upon a star tonight? Do you need to set aside some listening time?

“Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you.” Luke 11:9
