God: I'll gladly wash your mouth out with soap.

“Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift.”  Ephesians 4:29 (MSG)

“Please.”
It is the word we long to hear our kids say the first time around when they want something. More times than not I am pausing and waiting for them to try again. To ask the “right way”.

But I have begun to notice that I don’t ask the right way either. I say “Go put your shoes in your room.” Rather than “Can you please be a great helper and go put your shoes in your room and your socks in your dirty clothes?”

Their eyes are watching and their ears are hearing. We are their example for the way they learn to talk. How do you talk to your spouse? Is it in kind, loving, and encouraging words? How do you talk on the phone to friends? Does it include gossip and complaints? How do you talk to God? Does it include praise and thanksgiving?

Choose to be very aware of the way you talk today and going forward. Say only what helps.
