How dare You!

“He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.” Genesis 22:1-2

As a mother I read this text with new eyes. Eyes that make me cringe and cry on the inside. I think “how dare God ask such a thing!” This scripture pushes and pulls me.
Are there people and things that I love that come before God? The answer is most certainly “yes!” I think I am a better mom if I tend to my children before reading my Bible, I think I am a better spouse if I have a clean house before I have a clean heart, I think I am a better woman if I have beautiful outfit rather than serving those with no outfits.  God challenges us with the things that we love.
Can we put our trust in His ways over our ways? Here is what I know. If I were to choose His ways of loving, giving, and caring I would in-turn be a better mom, wife and woman of God.  And isn’t that what we desire?

Making the sacrifice.

Write out your own response to the above scripture. How does it make you feel? What does it make you think? What do you struggle trusting God with?
