That Ugly Bathroom Counter.

I like things that are pleasing to the eye. I like to find beauty in little things like paper, mason jars, and antique tools. I take pride in the look of my home. My kids rooms are sheer joy. I spent countless hours on them.

I like their parties have an experience factor, I like my table settings to be inviting and creative, and I like my house to evoke people to look around.

I like dreaming on Pinterest of my one day dream kitchen and table settings to come.

But I recently noticed something. The spaces and places in my home that are hidden from public view are not very fabulous. I push it off on the fact that no one sees them and I am not going to put energy and resources into something others can’t notice. My bathroom area is a perfect example. Yes, I have a dream plan for my standard and very boring bathroom. But that dream plan is about number 500 on the list of "things to-do." So there it sits…boring, messy, and unpleasant to look at. It irritates me.

So last Friday I said to heck (If my four year old could read he would say “Mommy, heck is a bad word. And I know son. “I am sorry!”) with it…I am fixing it. I went and grabbed things out of, what my family calls, my “foo-foo” closet. I grabbed pretty things that get used MAYBE once or twice a year and created a bathroom counter area that has purpose, is pretty to look at, and makes me happy. And I did it all in fewer than 30 minutes and spend not one dime!

It got me to thinking about the rest of life. Are there places that others can’t see that I need to dust off, pretty up, give more meaning and purpose to? I think so. I am a creature of routine and habit but sometimes it takes shaking up that routine to create change and be able to see and hear God in new ways. I am not sure what all this means for me or you but I thought if I can dramatically shift the life of my bathroom counter with just a few nips and tucks what could I do with myself with a few changes here or there? Stay tuned!

P.S. – I already did one thing and that was I added a personal trainer to my life three days a week! That is not the present I wanted to ask for when it came to Mother’s Day but it is what I needed to do.
